Whew! Made it thru, didn't get sick, had a pretty good time.
I took videos, but didn't get out the camera. Trying not to feel guilty about that. I am sure I can fake some later on. That way I have total control over the kids' hair and wardrobe!! And I know some of you out there care as much about that as I do!! Come clean!
The kids were thrilled with their loot, and that was before we revealed the three oldest kids' big gifts! Dang it, we could have returned the big stuff! Naw, just kidding. Nina's big one was a pair of roller blades that she didn't ask for. All she would ask for was Littlest Pet Shop, and we needed something a little bigger than that for her, as she already had 2 of the 4 sets, pre-Christmas. Nolan's biggie was a Tony Hawk skateboard. We had to do our homework and take a poll of our cool skater neighbor kids and the store staff, and they all said the same thing go with the Birdhouse deck. Allison received the laptop that Mike bought last spring and never really used. Shelli at the office cleared off all of his real estate stuff and it looked perfect. Now she can stop writing on the old re-furb laptop we bought for her in the 2nd grade, and write her stories on this one, even go online, hi-fi. Nina is thrilled to be handed down the old one. Marik got a bevy of Cars cars, Spiderman figures, Pirates of the Caribbean figures and a Tonka crane. I even found/bought a shirt that reads I DIg Tonka. He was less thrilled about that. Snob. Gwen received some Littlest Pet Shop, HSM 2 Sharpay and 'Gab-arella' dolls, computer games, Nintendo games (for the recently handed down SP), and THE cutest red kitchen. I couldn't pass it up, the price was way cheap, and I hoped and prayed that she would like it. It was one of those, mom really wants it which kid can she buy it for gifts. Luckily, Mike thought it was a good idea, and Gwen LOVED it. She requested that we buy some play food for it. And I will, because we had to move it to the kitchen so that we could better clean up all the real food she was playing with. Only thing is she repeatedly tells me that she is the better chef now.
Mike completely caught me off guard and broke our no-gift promise this year. Luckily he bought himself a gift as well as one for me. He gave me a Juicy sweatsuit, which made me happy to think that he thought so highly of me that he really thought I could fit into one of those things. I warned him it might not be pretty. I surprised myself and was able to squeeze in. Barely. But it might be awhile until I get in it again. There are many sweaty workouts in my future. Mike bought himself a Halo3 game. I took a look at the game and told him Christmas is a day we celebrate Jesus, not his brother!!
Tomorrow we go up to the cabin in Scofield to visit and play with our cousins, and try to not get snowmobiles stuck in powder. That is always the biggest fun. The kids always want to go there. It will be really difficult, as it will be the first time we all are together since our grandma died this summer. When we didnt get her for Christmas Day (my mom and her brother would switch off year to year), we always knew we would see her at the cabin soon after.
Taking the camera up for sure. I love to have a family picture in front of my uncle's snowcat. My nephew TC from CA flies in in the morning so he will be with us all for a week. Expect the xBox 360 to smoke from the all night battles I am sure Mike and TC will have.
