It really zaps the creativity outta me sometimes.
Today I am feeling very zapped out. It was a hugely busy week what with all the kids school years winding down. Marik's is done. The rest finish this week. I had little time to lay down and nap and rest the past few days. I still have a doctor's excuse to pull that out at anytime I need. And I can do so for the next three weeks without feeling guilty!!
Went to the zoo yesterday with Kelli and Eli, whom Marik loooves. what made me laugh was how the boys were so excited to be together that they only wanted to run up and down hills and steps, chase normal everyday non-zoo birds, squash goldfish crackers and maybe eat a churro. Never found the churro. Kelli got us in for free and I was so thrilled about that!! thank you thank you. It was the kindergartners field trip so we went along, I never ended up seeing Gwen. She did fine so I was happy. I wanted her to hang out with different people (as in two classmates and a parent) because she can be with me anytime. I think it is totally important for the little ones to experience that.
Nina had her wax museum this week. She chose Albert Einstein. It turned my stomach because I was so saddened about the letters that recently hit the press about his feelings about the scriptures. But I zipped my lip and tried to figure out a costume for her. I blew up a picture of him sticking his tongue out, laminated it, Nina cut it out and stuck it on a stick. She wore Nolan's church clothes and held the pic on a stick in front of her head for the wax museum. I was thankful that the teacher had the kids create their own display posters in class. Mrs Richard's end of year gift has just been bumped up a notch!!
Last week Mike signed Nina up for a three month stint in karate. She has been wanting to do an activity for some time now and it has been hard to figure out what could work. Three times a week, with private training and sparring, no less! She totally loves it! I like her senseis, they are so kind. Oh, the joy we will have (Mike especially) when her uniform is no longer completely white!! Yellow belt here she comes.
Nolan's baseball is winding down, but last night he was invited to try out for the 11 year old all star team (its a good thing we aren't leaving the state for a family vacation this summer). It is his first year on majors, so we are thrilled that he was chosen. There are 20 kids trying out, only room for 12. I talked to Mike during the try outs just now and he was one of the fastest kids running to first base. Under 4 seconds. His legs are so long he probably only took three strides!!!!!
Allison spent the morning at a golf clinic run by the high school team. She really liked it. We went o the mall today to get her some summer outfits for her CA trip next week with Mike. Even I tried to buy something for myself but the shopping mojo was not there. I had no desire. And what I did want, new makeup, was taking forever to get someone to help me, so we bailed.
Last night the dads in our congregation went on a campout with all of their kids. That was the whole idea. Nolan had a baseball game and so Mike sat this one out. Boy was Mike greatful for the baseball game giving him an 'out'. Besides, the campground was only twenty miles away and was really a big old parking lot!!!! Since most of my friends were totally kid and husband free we decided to go out to dinner, girls only. We tried to get lots of girls to go, but it ended up being Sarah, Kelli and I - and then day of we rounded it out with our neighbor Amelia. We haven't been out with her before so it was cool for us to have someone else to talk with. We discovered we could definitly be ourselves around her - and boy did we go off. We went to the Melting Pot. First time for me there. I have fondue experience from CA (La Fondue anyone?!). I knew I loved Amelia when she suggested ordering the entree with the lobster tails and a bottle of sparkling juice. My only regret was not packing some extra marshmallows, rice krispy treats and graham crackers in my purse to pull out when we ran low on our dessert fondue dipping treats! I am not kidding, I totally would have done that. Just because I have such a problem with not having enough of something yummy. I practically bit Sarah's head off when she suggested maybe skipping the entree and just doing salad, cheese and dessert. That is how bad I am! Can't wait to go there again, but will definetly have to be when I am back on the workout track because I was so painfully stuffed I became ashamed of myself. Wednesday I can begin workouts. And be full speed (as in taking the high impact classes that kick my tail) in two more weeks.
